Description of the Family Genealogy: My nephew Geoffrey and I would welcome any additional information,
including corrections and amendments on our work which follows below.

• FACT !  - AUDCENT alias AUDECENT
  Despite extensive research - the family can find no other persons of our  ORIGINAL family surname now living anywhere in the World (up to the present time) - If anyone knows of someone please do let that person and me know !  Recently we have discovered that the surname is not as I had thought a corruption of a another surname, but existed as early as 1287 in Perche, France.

The AUDCENT family of France, England, Canada and Australasia, derive from the family (H)AUDECENT of Eure et Loir, and for many generations lived in and around the town of Chateaudun in that Department of France.  The earliest reference to the name todate is Guillaume HODECENT (patronyms: Haudessens & Haudecent) who in 1287 sold a piece of land to the brothers of the local Hotel Dieu (presumed the Abbey of St Denis) at Nogent-le-Rotrou, Perche, now in Eure et Loir.  The next is another Guillaume "AUDECENT" mentioned in 1430 at Bourg d'Ire, Maine et Loire, also a Guillaume "AUDECENT" m. 13/6/1564 Bourg d'Ire, Maine et Loire, Guillemine DELLYMELLE, and later we find Marie "AUDESANT" m. 10/5/1639 St Germain-en-Laye, Seine et Oise, France to Francois PAGET.

NOTE: there are numerous variants of the name, including:-

AUDECENT, ODSAN, HAUDECENT, HAUDESSANT, HODESANS,  HODSAN, OXAN, AUXAN, AUXANT, AUXENT, OCCEAN, OZANNE , among others.

The FIRST known member of our family is Jacques ODSAN who married before 1707 Perrine JARRY (her surname has many variants all completely different!!!)
at a place and date unknown, we desperately need to find this marriage,
however, it looks as if the relevant registers have been lost!    
He had 5 known children - all were married at Chateaudun, Eure et Loir, France.

2  Andre (c.1707-1755) m. 1733 Marie HOUDIN;
3  Louis m. 1744 Marie BODINEAU;
4  A daughter who married Pierre ROUSSEAU
5  Catherine ODSAN m. 17/11/1733 Chateaudun, Etienne PROVOT
